Pirate Day

Last Friday the Waterdragons and Possums had a pirate day. We came to school dressed as pirates. The possums hid some treasure for us to find in the sandpit. Miss Mills painted our faces to make us look like real pirates. We made hooks, swords and a parrot to sit on our shoulder. Mrs Haley had a rubber duck on her shoulder. It was really funny.

Prayer Assembly

The Waterdragons did a fabulous job during their prayer assembly yesterday. They told the school about Jesus' mum, Mary, and how she said, "Yes!" to God. Then they prayed 5 Hail Marys using their Rosary beads. The Waterdragons finished their prayer with a song about Mary. They were great!

The Wild Man

He talked to us about water. If you run out of water you will die.

He showed us animals and their poo. He showed us a crocodile skin and if you shoot it on its back the bullet won't go through. He showed us a picture of a mother sheep , she got stuck in the wire fence, she died because she didn't have any water. We touched a crocodile head but not its teeth because they are sharp and the Wild Man doesn't like blood.

MOTHER'S DAY!

The Waterdragons showed their mums how much they loved them yesterday, when they celebrated an early Mother's Day in their classroom. They found out some of the things their mums loved to do, and decorated and organised the room, ready for the special day. They had lots of fun spending time with their mums and nannas and made lots of beatuiful things with them.

THE EASTER BUNNY'S WORKSHOP!

HAPPY EASTER

from The Waterdragons!

EASTER MEANS - NEW LIFE!

The Waterdragons have been learning about one of the special messages of Easter – New Life! While we are very excited that the Easter Bunny will soon be on his way, we have been looking closely at the journey of Jesus and learning about symbols of new life.

We read lots of stories about Jesus and learned about his childhood and family. We made books about the stages of Jesus’ life and learned songs about Him, too. (We even taught them to the Possums and our buddies!) As Lent began, we talked about trying to be more like Jesus.·
As Easter approached, we focused on Holy Week and discussed the last days of Jesus’ life. The children felt very sad about the things done to Jesus but were pleased at the happy ending on Easter Sunday. The Waterdragons talked about Jesus’ resurrection and the promise of new life. We brainstormed other symbols of new life and were amazed to discover that Easter eggs are a sign of new life, too!

We were very clever to recognise a symbol of new life in our classroom, when some caterpillars and a golden chrysalis were brought to school.
We decided to keep them so we could watch them change into butterflies.

The caterpillars were kept in a fish tank (generously donated!) with the golden chrysalis, and fed fresh leaves every day. They ate and ate ….
and grew and grew… …. and then sometime over the weekend….
turned into brown chrysalises!
The Waterdragons counted and recorded how long each chrysalis took to hatch. They were thrilled to see the butterflies when they emerged - the caterpillars had new lives!
